Leadership Coaching & Learnings

Being kind & valuing ourselves as leaders

Wendy Youens is a Leadership Coach & Consultant who works alongside leaders to support, coach and mentor through a bespoke, holistic programme. She was until very recently the Chief Executive for Able NZ, New Zealand’s captioning and audio description service.

Having worked in leadership roles for nearly 15 years and began her career at TVNZ and worked in a range of production, team leader and department manager roles.

She completed her Bachelor of Arts at the University of Otago and completed her high school studies with me at Feilding Agricultural high school.

She is currently the Chair of the Basement Theatre in Auckland and someone who I admire greatly.

She is also a mother of 2 and I deeply love and appreciate our friendship.

In this episode

We speak about leadership learnings, life transitions & where our life journeys have taken us since high school. Wendy emphasises the importance of being kind in leadership & work roles.

P.S A shout out to Wendy’s husband Ryan Youens who created the intro music for this podcast!

P.P.S. At one point I talk about “lovenotes” I was actually thinking about a term by Kevin Roberts, the CEO of the brand agency Saatchi & Saatchi who speaks about Lovemarks over marketing, emphasising the potential organisations have to foster mystery, sensuality and intimacy beyond the typical academic narrative.
